Mediators

The aim of mediation is to explore whether it is possible for couples to reach an agreement together, with the assistance of an independent third-party mediator.  In our experience mediation can be a great way of encouraging communication and promoting positive working relationships for the future.  It can also be a much more cost-effective option of resolving disputes.

Mediation can focus on a variety of issues such as the division of the family assets or arrangements for the children.  In fact, mediation can focus on pretty much anything including family pets and who will keep the dog!  You will set the agenda with the mediator and so you will be in control of the topics and can cover whatever issues need to be addressed and more importantly, resolved.

Whilst we do not offer mediation services ourselves, we have an excellent relationship with local specialist family mediators, with whom we often work very closely.

Our role is to advise whether mediation is a suitable option for you in the first instance and, where appropriate, to refer you to the mediator we feel would work well with you and your individual circumstances.  

We will advise and support you alongside the mediation process and can give tips and pointers on areas for discussion.

Ultimately, if it proves possible to reach an agreement in mediation, we will advise you how to make that agreement legally binding and if appropriate, draft a Consent Order reflecting the terms of settlement.  You can read more about Consent Orders here. (hyperlink to Consent Orders tab)

Should mediation break down without agreement, we will advise and guide you through the more formal solicitor driven or court-based settlement routes, ensuring that the very best outcome is achieved for you.
